Aufgrund der positiven Resonanz von Publikum und Presse wird die Ausstellung „Goldrausch 2023 \u2013 on the edge of“<\/strong> in der galerie weisser elefant bis einschlie\u00dflich 21. Januar 2024 verl\u00e4ngert<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

On the edge of<\/em> steht f\u00fcr eine k\u00fcnstlerische Konfrontation mit einer \u00f6kologisch, politisch und sozial fragilen Gegenwart. Die 15 Teilnehmerinnen des Goldrausch K\u00fcnstlerinnenprojekts verhandeln in ihren Arbeiten kritische Perspektiven auf Umbr\u00fcche unserer Umwelt im Zeitalter des Anthropoz\u00e4n. Die Arbeiten loten mediale und inhaltliche Grenzen \u2013 edges<\/em> \u2013 aus und legen Zwischenr\u00e4ume und Transformationsprozesse offen.<\/p>\n

Es ist immer noch dringlich, K\u00fcnstlerinnen* eine Plattform zu bieten; dies zeigen auch die Ergebnisse der Studie (Okt. 2023) des Deutschen Kulturates \u201eBaustelle Geschlechtergerechtigkeit, Datenreport zur wirtschaftlichen und sozialen Lage im Arbeitsmarkt Kultur\u201c. Nach wie existiert ein deutlicher Gender-Pay-Gap in der Bildenden Kunst. Diesem zugrunde liegt auch, dass es weniger Ausstellungen mit K\u00fcnstlerinnen* gibt (Gender-Show-Gap). Das Goldrausch K\u00fcnstlerinnenprojekt wirkt dem entgegen und setzt sich seit 1989 f\u00fcr die Sichtbarkeit herausragender k\u00fcnstlerischer Positionen von Frauen* ein. Die Ausstellung \u2013 kuratiert von Laure Catugier und Hannah Kruse \u2013 l\u00e4dt ein, die Arbeiten von 15 spannenden K\u00fcnstlerinnen zu entdecken.<\/p>\n

ARDE, Homage to reparation processes<\/em><\/strong>: Durational Performance von Daniela Medina Poch<\/p>\n

Inspiriert von der Kosmovision indigener Gemeinschaften im Amazonasgebiet erforscht ARDE<\/em> Brennnesselpflanzen als somatische Technologie. Die K\u00fcnstlerin n\u00e4ht eine Schicht frischer Brennnesselbl\u00e4tter auf ein Milit\u00e4rhemd, das der Uniform der kolumbianischen Nationalarmee \u00e4hnelt. W\u00e4hrend die Brennnessel nach und nach die milit\u00e4rische Tarnung \u00fcberdeckt, dringen die von der Pflanze freigesetzte Ameisens\u00e4ure und das Histamin gleichzeitig in das Hemd und in ihre Hand ein und verursachen ein lang anhaltendes, brennendes Gef\u00fchl, das ihre Haut bet\u00e4ubt.<\/p>\n

Soundwalk mit Bea Targosz<\/strong> (Goldrausch 2023). Der Treffpunkt ist um 13.45 Uhr im Innenhof der Galerie.<\/p>\n

W\u00e4hrend des Spaziergangs werden wir Klanglandschaften erleben und nach lokalen Klangereignissen suchen. Wir werden mit unseren Ohren, ohne technische Hilfsmittel, lauschen. Wir werden die \u00dcberschneidungen zwischen Natur, technischer Infrastruktur und Architektur erforschen und nach deren h\u00f6rbaren Spuren suchen. Indem wir unsere H\u00f6rgewohnheiten und -f\u00e4higkeiten untersuchen, werden wir versuchen, neue Perspektiven auf unsere Umgebung zu er\u00f6ffnen.<\/p>\n

Performance \u201eTranslator\u201c von Emma Wilson<\/strong> (Goldrausch 2023). Die Performance findet drau\u00dfen im Innenhof der Galerie statt.<\/p>\n

\u201eTranslator\u201c untersucht Fragen der Autor:innenschaft und verkn\u00fcpft Erfahrungen des Sprechens und Zuh\u00f6rens mit denen der Nahrungsaufnahme und Verdauung. Die Bewegung eines computergenerierten Kefirkorns wird von einer Dolmetscherin in Worte \u00fcbersetzt. Kefirk\u00f6rner sind symbiotische Ansammlungen von Bakterien und Hefen, die sich von Zucker ern\u00e4hren, ihn durch einen G\u00e4rungsprozess verdauen und als Nebenprodukt Kohlendioxid freisetzen. Gleich dem K\u00f6rper des Kefirkorns ist auch der vorgetragene Text ein Kompositum, das aus einer Collage zusammengeschnittener Zitate und vermengter Autor:innenschaft entstanden ist.<\/p>\n

ARDE, Homage to reparation processes<\/strong>: Durational Performance by Daniela Medina Poch<\/p>\n

Drawing inspiration from the cosmovision of several indigenous Andean-Amazonian communities, ARDE investigates nettle as a somatic technology. The artist sews a layer of fresh nettle leaves onto a military shirt that resembles the uniform shirt of the Colombian National Army. While the nettle gradually covers the military camouflage, the formic acid and histamine released by the plant enter the shirt and the her hand simultaneously, producing a prolonged stinging sensation that numbs the skin.<\/p>\n

An open confessional seat serves as the focal point facilitating discussions on traditional perceptions of culpability and redemption. Visitors are invited to make \u2013 or listen to \u2013 a confession. What is the contemporary significance of rituals? How is the sacred valued? What potential lies within the act of confessing? How can ‚confession,‘ when divorced from a patriarchal power structure, be reimagined and embraced?<\/p>\n

During the walk, we will experience the local sound environment and search for local sonic happenings. We will walk while listening with our bare ears, without technological extensions. We will explore the intersections between nature, technological infrastructure and architecture, searching for their audible traces. By examining our listening habits and skills, we will try to open up new perspectives on our environment. <\/p>\n

\u201cTranslator\u201d explores questions of authorship, linking experiences of speaking and listening with those of eating and digestion. The movement of a computer-generated kefir grain is translated into words by an interpreter. Kefir grains are symbiotic collections of bacteria and yeasts that feed on sugars, digest them through fermentation and release carbon dioxide as a by-product. Like the body of the kefir grain, the text recited is a composite, resulting from a collage of cut-together quotes and intermingled authorships.<\/p>\n

Das Goldrausch K\u00fcnstlerinnenprojekt zeigt vom 30. September bis 25. November 2023 in der galerie weisser elefant aktuelle Arbeiten von 15 internationalen Bildenden K\u00fcnstlerinnen mit Arbeitsort Berlin. Mit Goldrausch 2023 \u2013 on the edge<\/em> of<\/em> pr\u00e4sentiert das Professionalisierungsprogramm die Abschlussausstellung seines 33. Jahrgangs. Die Gruppenausstellung ist eine Kooperation zwischen dem Fachbereich Kunst, Kultur und Geschichte des Bezirks Berlin-Mitte und dem Goldrausch K\u00fcnstlerinnenprojekt. Sie wird von Laure Catugier und Hannah Kruse kuratiert.<\/p>\n

Unter dem Titel Goldrausch 2023 \u2013 on the edge of<\/em><\/strong> zeigen die 15 Teilnehmerinnen des Goldrausch K\u00fcnstlerinnenprojekts<\/strong> Ausschnitte aus ihrer gegenw\u00e4rtigen Produktion. Zu erleben sind analoger Experimentalfilm, Video- und Soundinstallationen, konzeptuelle Fotografie, Malerei, Tapisserien, Performance, und Skulpturen.<\/p>\n

Die K\u00fcnstlerinnen verhandeln in ihren Arbeiten feministische Perspektiven auf Geschichte und Popkultur, Ver\u00e4nderungen unserer Umwelt im Zeitalter des Anthropoz\u00e4n, multiperspektivische Erz\u00e4hlungen von Alltagsritualen und \u00d6konomie. Konzeptuell loten sie mediale und inhaltliche Grenzen \u2013 edges<\/em> \u2013 aus und legen Zwischenr\u00e4ume und Transformationsprozesse offen. Entlang dieser edges<\/em> laden die Werke der K\u00fcnstlerinnen zur Reflexion ein: \u00dcber gesellschaftliche oder \u00f6kologische Ver\u00e4nderungen, k\u00fcnstlerische Genres und Materialien. Damit regt die Ausstellung Goldrausch 2023 \u2013 on the edge of<\/em> dazu an, bestehende Systeme zu hinterfragen und Potenziale zur Umgestaltung zu entwickeln.<\/p>\n

Das Goldrausch K\u00fcnstlerinnenprojekt f\u00f6rdert als einj\u00e4hriger Professionalisierungskurs herausragende k\u00fcnstlerische Positionen von Frauen*. W\u00e4hrend des Kursjahres konzentrieren sich die Teilnehmerinnen in einer solidarischen Gemeinschaft auf ihre berufliche Weiterbildung und tragen gleichzeitig die gewonnenen Ergebnisse in die \u00d6ffentlichkeit. Das renommierte, bundesweit einzigartige berufliche Weiterbildungsprojekt unterst\u00fctzt seit 1989 Bildende K\u00fcnstlerinnen dabei, sich individuelle Karrierewege zu erschlie\u00dfen und ihre Arbeiten einem breit gef\u00e4cherten Publikum zu pr\u00e4sentieren.<\/p>\n

During this heartbreaking period, most of us have put the new notion in our pocket vocabulary. Resilience helps individuals and communities endure the immense hardships, trauma, and destruction brought on by the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine. Being resilient allows people to maintain hope, cope with the stress and uncertainty of war, and rebuild their lives and communities in the aftermath, fostering a sense of survival and continuity amidst the chaos. We invite artists and cultural workers from Ukraine to participate in our workshop and meet-ups programme during August in Berlin and build resilience shields and develop coping skills.<\/p>\n

\u201cA psychohistorical journey to the Glacier Valley\u201d by Harri Kraievets<\/strong> (psychoanalyst and artist, born in Odesa, Ukraine) <\/p>\n

A joint countryside trip designed to collectively search for new ways of producing the unconscious. The purpose of the two-day group action will be a joint attempt to drift from old mental images to new, unknown ones. The group will leave the urban area, break old automatisms, and develop new \u201cImages of Group Movement\u201d. On the second day, a classic psychoanalytic group format allows reflection on experiences from the journey and the exploration of repetitive actions and anxiety within the group dynamic. Group therapy will take place together with Maksym Yarmolenko, ten years of clinical experience in the departments of psychosomatics and psychiatry, special focus on mental trauma, psychosomatic diseases, integration and depression.<\/p>\n

The Artist as Prophet <\/em>ist ein Versuch, die Komplexit\u00e4t des politischen Kontextes der Ukraine durch die Pr\u00e4sentation von Werken, die entweder vor dem Beginn des Krieges im Jahr 2014 oder vor dem umfassenden Angriffskrieg gegen die Ukraine im Jahr 2022 entstanden sind, deutlich zu machen. Die Ausstellung richtet sich an die lokale \u00d6ffentlichkeit und zeigt, dass der aktuelle Konflikt nicht neu ist, sondern von K\u00fcnstler*innen schon vor langer Zeit vorhergesehen und erwartet wurde.

Die zus\u00e4tzliche Intention der Ausstellung ist es, K\u00fcnstler zu pr\u00e4sentieren, f\u00fcr die es schwierig wurde, die Ukraine nach dem Beginn der Invasion Russlands zu verlassen. So kam es, dass es sich um M\u00e4nner im Alter von 18 bis 60 Jahren handelt, deren Kunstwerke in einigen F\u00e4llen nicht au\u00dferhalb der Ukraine pr\u00e4sentiert werden konnten. Im Rahmen der Ausstellung planen wir ein \u00f6ffentliches Programm mit einer Portfoliobesprechung lokaler Kuratoren, um ihre k\u00fcnftige Repr\u00e4sentation zu erm\u00f6glichen.<\/em><\/p>\n

The show traces the artists‘ ability to sense future events using both rational calculations within artistic research and intuitive approaches. Artists were bringing attention to complex topics or potentially problematic matters such as warning about the existence of the Russian navy on the territory of Ukraine which partly led to annexation of the Crimea in 2014, or public discontent towards the pro-Russian president of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovich in some regions of the country, which possibly could lead to disappointment in the authorities at whole.<\/p>\n

The Artist as Prophet <\/em>is an attempt to showcase the complexity of the political context of Ukraine by presenting works that were created either prior to the beginning of the war in 2014 or before the full-scale war of aggression against Ukraine in 2022. Addressed to the local public the exhibition shows that the current conflict is not fresh, but was foreseen and expected by artists a long time ago.<\/p>\n

The supplemental purpose of the show, apart from the main topic, was to present those artists for whom it became difficult to leave the country after the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia in Ukraine. So happened that these are men in age 18 to 60, whose artworks, accordingly, in some cases could be not as presented outside of Ukraine. As part of the exhibition, we are planning a public program with a portfolio review of local curators to stimulate their future representation.<\/p>\n

Der Bildungsverbund Urbane K\u00fcnste ERbeLEBEN l\u00e4dt Kinder und Jugendliche ein, sich mit der Verwendbarkeit und Umwandlung bestehender Geb\u00e4ude und Brachen in Berlin zu besch\u00e4ftigen. An welcher Infrastruktur mangelt es in Berlin und welche baulichen Umnutzungen k\u00f6nnen der Gesellschaft zugunsten kommen? Braucht Berlin als Bundeshauptstadt neue, moderne Hochh\u00e4user? Oder ist es progressiver und nachhaltiger, bestehende Geb\u00e4ude f\u00fcr neue Zwecke zu transformieren? Wer schreibt die Stadt und wie k\u00f6nnen Umnutzungen auf die Bed\u00fcrfnisse der Bewohner*innen reagieren?<\/p>\n

Die Ausstellung in der galerie wei\u00dfer elefant zeigt den Arbeitsprozess und die Ergebnisse von neun k\u00fcnstlerischen Einzelprojekten mit den Partnerschulen als Installationen, Fotografien, Zeichnungen, Texte und Videos. In seinem neuen Buch \u201eGeist und M\u00fcll\u201c schreibt Guillaume Paoli \u201eVon Denkweisen in postnormalen Zeiten\u201c. Er legt den rhetorischen Finger in so gut wie alle Wunden unserer planetaren Krise, die eine postnormale Krise ist: \u201eReden wir nicht um den hei\u00dfen Brei herum<\/em> \u2013 So viel steht au\u00dfer Zweifel: Kommt die Sechs-Grad-Klimaerw\u00e4rmung, ist Sense f\u00fcr alle.\u201c Und warum das alles? In einer Lesung am 10. Juni 2023 zur Ausstellung After Monoculture<\/em> untersuchen wir diese Frage und bahnen einen direkten Pfad von der Kunst zur Philosophie: Vom globalen Extraktivismus, den Marcelina Wellmers Film zwischen Hamburg und Schweden prospektiert, zum kapitalistischen Wachstumsfetischismus, den Paolis philosophischer Text durchkreuzt. Hier werden materielle Ursachen kommender, und wie wir immer klarer sehen, schon gegenw\u00e4rtiger Klimakatastrophen sichtbar. Mit Paul Val\u00e9ry, der schon 1935 ein \u201eWachstum ohne Grenzen\u201c kritisierte, fragt Paoli allerdings nach einer anderen Qualit\u00e4t: \u201eKann der Geist uns aus der Lage herausf\u00fchren, in die er uns gebracht hat?\u201c Wir werden uns dar\u00fcber unterhalten, welcher Geist das war oder ist, und stellen die Frage neu: Kann die Kunst in der Kritik der Ph\u00e4nomene uns Auswege zeigen?<\/p>\n

Performance-Vorlesung in drei Teilen<\/p>\n

Es sollte nicht \u00fcberraschen, dass K\u00f6rper und Welt chemisch proportional sind. Was wir essen, ist ein irdisches Lebensmittel, das eine \u00e4hnliche chemische Struktur aufweist wie die physischen Gewebe und Fl\u00fcssigkeiten, aus denen das Leben besteht. Kohlenstoff, Sauerstoff, Wasserstoff, Kupfer, Stickstoff und Eisen sind in jedem Bissen, den wir in unseren Magen f\u00fchren, in genau dem richtigen Verh\u00e4ltnis vorhanden. Dies sind die Elemente, die f\u00fcr den Stoffwechsel, die Bewegung, die (Wieder-)Herstellung und die Reparatur des K\u00f6rpers ben\u00f6tigt werden. Proteine – gro\u00dfe Biomolek\u00fcle und Makromolek\u00fcle – und die rund zwanzig Aminos\u00e4uresubstrate, aus denen sie synthetisiert werden, sind eine grundlegende W\u00e4hrung, die lebende Strukturen widerspiegelt und konstituiert. Aminos\u00e4uren sind in der Tat ein universeller biogeologischer Marker, der sich durch alle Zeiten und R\u00e4ume zieht und das Vorhandensein von Leben signalisiert.<\/p>\n

In einer r\u00e4umlich-akustischen Lesung in Mono(kultur) und Stereo stellt Jamie Allen Aspekte dieser peristaltischen, proteinischen Assemblage in drei Teilen vor. Die abendliche Performance-Vorlesung im Fr\u00fchjahr findet im Freien statt und wird von einem Essen mit gekochten Muscheln in Wei\u00dfweinso\u00dfe und Sekt begleitet.<\/p>\n

It should come as no surprise (but it does) that living bodies and the world are chemically proportional. All of the earthly provisions we eat are of similar composition to the physical tissues and fluids that compose life. Carbon, oxygen, hydrogen, copper, nitrogen and iron are already available, in just about the right proportions, in the plant and photosynthesis-derived foods we eat. This efficient nutritional transduction, this low impedance of metabolic transfer, gives a forgiving congruity to a metabolic labour that is in other ways as monstrous as it is commonplace: eating, or the disintegration and re-integration of living matter. Large biomolecules are broken down and resynthesized in ways that underline the necessary proportionality of the living bodies (human, animal, fungal, and bacterial) to the biosphere and the necrosphere.<\/p>\n

In a mono(cultural) and stereo spatial-acoustic reading, Jamie Allen\u2019s peristaltic poem underlines aspects of this productive proportionality. Held outdoors, a spring-evening performance lecture accompanies locally sourced asparagus, potatoes, white and sparkling wines.<\/p>\n

Auf Einladung von Marcelina Wellmer empf\u00e4ngt die galerie weisser elefant die K\u00fcnstlerin und Komponistin Jasmine Guffond zu einer Solo-Sound-Performance. Die Performance finden in den Raum statt, in dem Wellmers Werk Solid Landscapes pr\u00e4sentiert wird.<\/p>\n

Diese audiovisuelle Arbeit ist das Portr\u00e4t einer scheinbar endlosen Industrielandschaft. Das Video beginnt im Norden Deutschlands bei den riesigen Containerdepots, die St\u00e4dte wie Berlin mit den globalen Versorgungsleitungen verbinden, und wandert dann nach Norden zu den schwedischen Eisenminen, in denen die Rohstoffe f\u00fcr die Herstellung von Konsumg\u00fctern abgebaut werden.<\/p>\n

galerie weisser elefant continues to present a public program in the framework of After Monoculture<\/em><\/strong>, a group exhibition curated by Lisa Rosendahl, that brings together Jakob Jakobsen, \u00c5sa Sonjasdotter, Marcelina Wellmer.<\/p>\n

With the invitation of Marcelina Wellmer, galerie weisser elefant will welcome artist and composer Jasmine Guffond for a solo sound performance in the room where Wellmer’s work Solid Landscapes<\/em> is presented. This audio-visual work is a portrait of a seemingly endless industrial landscape. The video begins in the north of Germany, at the vast freight container depots that connect cities like Berlin to global supply lines, then travels north towards the Swedish iron mines where the raw materials used to produce consumer goods are extracted.<\/p>\n

Jasmine works at the interface of social, political and technical infrastructures. Her practice spans live performance, recording, sound installation and custom-made browser plug-in. Through the sonification of data she addresses the potential for sound to engage with contemporary political questions. Recent projects employed digital technologies, sonification and the aesthetisation of data as a means of fostering discussion around contemporary surveillance technologies as well as producing experimental audio works. Interested in providing an audible presence for phenomena that usually lies beyond human perception, via the sonification of facial recognition algorithms, global networks or internet tracking cookies she questions what it means for our personal habits to be traceable, and for our identities, choices and personalities to be reduced to streams of data.<\/p>\n

After the talk, it will be possible to see Sonjasdotter’s film Cultivating Abundance<\/em> (which is screening continuously for the duration of the exhibition).<\/p>\n

\u00c5sa Sonjasdotter\u2019s<\/strong> documentary film Cultivating Abundance<\/em> (60 min, 2022) departs from the invention in Sweden in the early 1900s of a modern method for plant breeding that lay the foundations of the global, monocultural agriculture industry that we see today. The film reflects on the consequences this methodological and ideological shift have had on human and more-than-human relations. The method developed at the Swedish Seed Association would come to have a decisive impact transnationally and was used as evidence to demonstrate patriarchal and fascist ideals regarding \u201cnature\u201d and \u201cpurity\u201d. As a counterpoint, the film follows activist and alternative plant breeder Hans Larsson\u2019s efforts to re-cultivate varieties of grain that were abandoned with the introduction of monocultural farming.<\/p>\n

\u00c5sa Sonjasdotter\u2019s artistic work is driven by an urge to engage in material-narrative processes for the unmaking of violent relations through food and land. Having grown up between monoculture farm fields in the highly industrialised farm region of South Scandinavia, she has an embodied experience of what such relations does to the people, the habitats, the waters and the soil. Further, it was in this region that an \u2018universally applicable\u2019 technique for monoculture plant breeding was invented. The topic is elaborated in the 2022 film Cultivating Abundance \u2013 Away from Monoculture, made in dialogue with the seed association Allkorn (Common Grains<\/em>) and breeder of peasant seeds Hans Larsson. For about two decades, Sonjasdotter has worked on the restoration of peasant knowledges and food relations following the migratory trajectories of cultivated plants. Der Begriff Monokultur wird h\u00e4ufig in der Landwirtschaft verwendet, wo er f\u00fcr gro\u00df angelegte Plantagen und die Standardisierung von Kulturen zur Maximierung von Ertr\u00e4gen und Gewinn steht. In der Ausstellung wird der Begriff verwendet, um auf einen umfassenderen kulturellen Zustand hinzuweisen, der mit aktuellen Sozial- und Umweltproblemen und verschiedenen Formen von Aussterben und Homogenisierung zusammenh\u00e4ngt. Die Ausstellung versammelt Werke von drei K\u00fcnstlern, die alle die standardisierenden Auswirkungen der Massenproduktion hinterfragen – sei es in Bezug auf die Natur, die Kultur oder die menschliche Subjektivit\u00e4t. Das Krankenhaus f\u00fcr Selbstmedikation <\/em>ist eine experimentelle Einrichtung, die mit kritischen Formen der Pflege und Therapie arbeitet. Das Projekt zielt darauf ab, die gewaltt\u00e4tigen Wurzeln und Praktiken des westlichen Gesundheitswesens offenzulegen und in Frage zu stellen, indem es dazu aufruft, der vom kapitalistischen System aufrechterhaltenen Spezialisierung und Trennung kollektive und allt\u00e4gliche Formen entgegenzusetzen.<\/p>\n

Mit dem Argument, dass auch das Kunstfeld von produktivistischen Vorstellungen und standardisierten Erwartungen bestimmt wird, trat Jakobsen 2021 von seiner T\u00e4tigkeit als bildender K\u00fcnstler zur\u00fcck. Die galerie weisser elefant zeigt eine Auswahl von Text- und Tonarbeiten, die bis zu seinem R\u00fccktritt entstanden sind.<\/p>\n

Die Arbeiten von Marcelina Wellmer entstanden im Rahmen des K\u00fcnstleraufenthalts Lapland Air im Havremagasinet in Boden, Schweden, und wurden von Neustart Kultur unterst\u00fctzt.<\/p>\n

The term monoculture is commonly used within agriculture, where it signifies large scale plantations and the standardization of crops in order to maximize yields and profit. In the exhibition, the term is used to indicate a wider cultural condition, connected to current social- and environmental problems and different forms of extinction and homogenization. The exhibition brings together works by three artists who all question the standardizing effects of mass production\u2013be it in relation to nature, culture or human subjectivity. The works address how productivist notions applied to both human and earth cause trauma, and call for acts of dissent and healing. The exhibition title, After Monoculture<\/em>, refers both to life in the wake of the ideals and technologies of monoculture\u2013and to the desire of moving beyond this paradigm.<\/p>\n

Marcelina Wellmer\u2019s<\/strong> video Solid Landscapes<\/em> (20 min loop, 2022) is a portrait of a seemingly endless industrial landscape. The video begins in the north of Germany, at the vast freight container depots that connect cities like Berlin to global supply lines, then travels north towards the Swedish iron mines where the raw materials used to produce consumer goods are extracted. The environments caught by the camera, eerily devoid of people, are shaped entirely by economic concerns and technological advances. Using a bird\u2019s eye perspective, the film leaves the viewer wondering if the landscapes are indeed real, or rather premonitions of a dystopian future. Wellmer also shows a series of digitally manipulated photographic animations, Lost Landscapes<\/em> (2023), where the logos of extractive companies operating in the north, such as the energy company Vattenfall and mining companies LKAB and Kaunis Iron, are mirrored in the landscapes they exploit. Trembling like mirages, the iconic mountainscapes\u2013often talked about as \u201cEurope\u2019s last wilderness\u201d\u2013appear to be mere empty shells, hollowed out from within and close to collapse.<\/p>\n

In Jakob Jakobsen\u2019s<\/strong> practice, mental health is understood as involving not only our individual bodies, but society at large. The Hospital for Self Medication<\/em> is an experimental institution that works with critical forms of care and therapy. The project aims to lay bare and challenge the violent roots and practices of western health care, calling for the specialization and separation sustained by the capitalist system to be countered by collective and everyday forms. Arguing that the art field is also defined by productivist notions and standardized expectations, Jakobsen resigned from being a visual artist in 2021. Galerie Weisser Elefant will show a selection of text- and sound pieces leading up to his resignation.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
